Generally in a kidney transplant after the basic surgery arrangements, extra catheters are inserted in the neck and wrist to keep an eye on the status of the heart and blood pressure. A catheter is also put into the bladder. Kidney Transplant surgery is done while the patient is under the influence of general anesthesia.

A tube is put in through the mouth into the lungs, which is fixed to a ventilator that will help you breathe during the procedure. The anesthesiologist will constantly watch over the patient's heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and blood oxygen level during the surgery. The doctor will make an incision into the lower abdomen on one side. The donor kidney is placed into the abdomen.
